Clients and consultants new to ServiceNow may not know about the flourishing "app store" which exists
or indeed Workday architects aware of their Extend platform which does something similar in the workday space. https://blog.workday.com/en-us/2020/workday-extend-now-available-to-customers.html
Here is a "certified" place akin to Apples app store where registered and certified consultancies, consultants and vendors can register and make available paid for (or free) apps to be deployed into a clients ServiceNow platform.
Id often wondered how bouyant the app store was when you compared it to say that of SAPSuccessFactors or Salesforce? or indeed to Workday whose Cloud Platform has been rebadged Extend (and is in it early infancy of maturity). So I posed myself 3 questions
1) what do each of the platforms have in terms of number of applications 2) how mature are the offerings by industry 3) are clients of ServiceNow deriving a value stream by developing apps for their own industry/function, then reselling them to other industry/function clients.
has 317 paid for apps. 128 free apps. covering all industries and functions.
SAPSF. Has 293 apps in the HR space.
Salesforce. https://appexchange.salesforce.com/
Is by far and away the most mature and complete offering but with no way to count the number of paid for and free apps.
Workday. https://blog.workday.com/en-us/2020/workday-extend-now-available-to-customers.html no details of apps available.
so partial answers to questions 1 & 2.
so to answer questions 3, its clear there are a large number of consultants and consultancies developing useful apps and deploying to app store. What I couldn't quite see was an industry such as Retail or Finance with common needs and requirements, where a particular client has developed an app or set of apps for its own internal use then thought "hey lets monetize this". I think this may be an untapped revenue stream or perhaps a change to collaborate for the greater industry good. Perhaps this ethos and non-competitive spirit lies in another industry (ill keep looking).....as Workday puts its "Innovation is a team sport"
