ServiceNow and Utilities

There are in increasing number of Utilities (water, oil, gas and waste) implementing ServiceNow. This is predominately for use in IT Service Management (ITSM) but as soon as they select the product and during the procurement phase they see other benefits to the Cloud service.

If you look at an organisation who makes an initial investment in ServiceNow they have done the hard part in a) selecting a cloud based service provider b) implemented a service to employee or customer population

Organisations who have made an initial investment in the ServiceNow cloud service, then its relevant to look at how that investment can be extended in 3 ways

1) Business, To be used in different business areas as to where it was first considered. If looked at in the HR space, then look to utilise in the IT or asset space

2) Technology, your RFP which selected ServiceNow of its original purpose may not have considered Portal, Mobile, Digitalisation of Workplace processes, Product builder but that’s what you get within the enlarged world of ServiceNow which you can now access (yes its additional licencing cost in some cases). Product builder meaning you can build your own apps or features which can be accessed from your core ServiceNow offering to replace End User Application (those excel or VBA applications for example). Workday has a similar feature called Extend and I know that banks in particular are looking to purchase to ultimately replace all the HR EUCs it has across Core, Pensions, Learning and Recruiting. Something which Southern may be interested in also.

3) Functionality, ServiceNow is in essence an enterprise cloud Saas solution. That’s a lot of words so lets break them down, Enterprise meaning can be used across your organisation, Cloud meaning its deployed as a private cloud solution within ServiceNow own data center (very secure and scalable), Saas (software as a service), meaning that one codeline is available for all customers and is kept upto date through regular upgrades of services (4 times a year), through releases named after major cities. Paris has just become available.
